Degree and positions

Sabrina Sicari was born on 18 September 1977 in Catania. Sabrina Sicari received her degree in Electronical Engineering 110/110 cum laude from the University of Catania in 2002.
Since March 2002 she has started her research activity at Dipartimento di Ingegneria Informatica e delle Telecomunicazioni of University of Catania, working on the development of virtual instrumentation for WLAN planning, activity included as contractor of EU project Cluster 16 (head Prof. S. Palazzo). In March 2006, she got her PhD in Computer and Telecommunications Engineering at the same University. From September 2004 to May 2006 she has been research scholar at Dipartimento di Elettronica e Informatica, Politecnico of Milano, where her research concerned risk assessment methodology and web service security (EU project Secse) under the guidance of Prof. Carlo Ghezzi. From May 2006 to December 2010 she worked at University of Insubria under the guidance of Prof. A. Coen-Porisini. From December 2010 to August 2016 she was assistant professor at University of Insubria, while from September 2016 to September 2023 she was Associate Professor.
In January 2015, she has obtained the Italian professorship as Associate Professor in both Computer Science and Software Engineering fields. In November 2020 she has obtained the Italian professorship as Full Professor in Software Engineering field.

PhD, mentoring, and teaching activity

Since 2017, Sabrina Sicari is a member of the ph.d commission in "Computer Science and Computational Mathematics" of University of Insubria. She has been tutor of a PhD student in Computer Science and Mathematics (XXIX cycle) at University of Insubria. In 2013 she has been member of final test commission of Information Engineering PhD Course of University of Pisa; in 2017 she has been external reviewer for a Ph.D thesis in Computer Science and Telecommunications Engineering, XXXI cycle, at University of Catania; in 2020 she has been external reviewer of a thesis for the Ph.D in Engineering (Program: Information Engineering), at University of Pisa.
She is advisor of many MS and BS degree thesis of students belonging to University of Catania and Insubria.
She taught at different classes of academic course at Politecnico of Milano and University of Insubria, where since 2010 she teaches at networking class for the BS course in Computer Science and since 2016 she also teaches at Innovative Telecommunication Systems for the MS course in Computer Science and finally, since 2020 she also teaches at Internet of Things Fundamentals for the BS course in Computer Science.
Since 2014 she is organizer and member of the commission for assessing the students’ projects of Premium 7Pixel, assigned to the best students of MS in Computer Science at University of Insubria.
Since 2023 she organizes with Prof. Elena Ferrari the event " Cyberchallenge.it: hackers sì, ma etici"

Current scientific interests

Sabrina Sicari’s research interests are on:
- Security and privacy policies models
- Definition of risk assessment methodologies
- Wireless sensor network
- Internet of Things

She has many research collaborations with both national and international groups. She is author of various papers on such topics published on international journals, books and conferences.

Invited speaker

Sabrina Sicari has been invited speaker in many workshops and conferences such as for EU Commission. She has been a keynote speaker at the 19th international conference on Ad Hoc network and Wireless (AdHoc Now 2020).

Competitive Project Participation

Sabrina Sicari has been involved in different research projects:
-SmScom-Self-Managing Situated Computing (head Prof. C. Ghezzi) ERC advanced grant from 2008, duration 60 months;
- SMIMI-Security in Modern Information Management Infrastructures ( head Prof. Elena Ferrari), Serics, duration 60 months;
- MoseforAgrofood-Mobile Service for Agro-food domain (head Prof. C. Batini) from 2010, duration 24 months; EU project Cluster 16 (head Prof. S. Palazzo). She is a project proposal reviewer for MIUR (REPRISE).

Scientific committees

Sabrina Sicari has been the organizer of the first edition and the general co-chair of S-Cube 2009.
She has been a Steering Committee member of S-Cube and guest editor for:
