ABOUT ME
I am a biologist, Associate Professor at the University of Insubria, Varese, Italy.
My research interests are especially focused on the genetics, cytogenetics and molecular genetics of hematological malignancies and bone marrow failure diseases, with particular interest of the rare ribosomopathy Shwachman-Diamond Syndrome, Fanconi Anemia and Chronic Myeloid Leukemia.
Since 2009 I teach in many coursed of the School of Medicine of the University of Insubria, reaching in 2025 a total amount of 134 hours of frontal lessons. Besides, I teach in three advanced medical School of Specializations. I am member and teacher of the Ph.D school in Biotechnology and Science of Life of the University of Insubria. I am member of the European Cytogenomics Association (ECA), the Italian Human Genetics Society (SIGU) and the European Society of Human Genetics (ESHG). Since 2021 I am member of the Scientific Committee of the Shwachman-Diamond Italian Association (AISS)

2001-2004: Ph.D course in Congenital and Acquired Degenerative Pathologies at the University of Insubria, Faculty of Medicine.
2001: Degree in Biological Sciences with a final score of 110/110 summa cum laude disserting the thesis “Cytogenetical Characterization of the breakpoint on the chromosome 10 of the translocation t(10;21)(q23.1;q11.2) observed in a patient affected by a rare congenital cardiac pathology”
1995-2001 University studies at the University of Milan in the course of Biological sciences, then moved to University of Insubria.

LABORATORY EXPERTISE
• Cell cultures: Cultures suspension and adherent cells (primary or tumor cell lines). Cultures of bacteria. Cultures of Yeast.
• Molecular biology: Most of the molecular biology techniques like PCR, qRT_PCR, DNA/RNA sequences cloning, reverse transcription, Southern-Blotting, Western Blotting, labeling of probes by nick translation or by random priming, etc…
• Cytogenetics: Preparation of Chromosomes from peripheral blood, bone marrow blood, fibroblasts, and cultured cells. Staining techniques. Analysis and reconstruction of the human karyotype.
• Molecular Cytogenetics: Preparation of probes from BAC, YAC, Cosmids and plasmids by nick translation or random priming. FISH, nuc-ISH, Painting FISH and M-FISH
• Cytogenomics: Array CGH sample preparation and data analysis
• Genomics: MinION sequencing and data analysis
