Course Objectives
EDUCATIONAL OBJECTIVES
The course provides students with basic knowledge on promoting and implementing strategies for achieving or maintaining healthy lifestyles, through structured physical activity programs and knowledge of nutritional hygiene principles. Furthermore, the course aims to provide the practical skills necessary for designing and proposing structured physical activity programs, with particular reference to aquatic and outdoor environments.
The knowledge and skills developed in this course are the foundation of the professionalism of Preventive and Adaptive Physical Activity Kinesiologists.
The integrated course consists of the following three modules:
Physical activity in aquatic environments
Fundamentals of food hygiene and sports nutrition
Green exercise and outdoor physical and sports activities
EXPECTED LEARNING OUTCOMES
Upon completion of the course, students will be able to:
understand the value of physical activity and nutritional hygiene in achieving and/or maintaining healthy lifestyles.
Explain the effects of specific physical activity programs (in aquatic and outdoor environments) and nutritional hygiene on health and fitness.
Plan and implement practical proposals for structured physical activity programs in aquatic and outdoor environments in different contexts and age groups.
Use appropriate teaching methodologies to promote healthy lifestyles.
Discuss the above topics using appropriate scientific terminology.
The course provides students with basic knowledge on promoting and implementing strategies for achieving or maintaining healthy lifestyles, through structured physical activity programs and knowledge of nutritional hygiene principles. Furthermore, the course aims to provide the practical skills necessary for designing and proposing structured physical activity programs, with particular reference to aquatic and outdoor environments.

Course Prerequisites
No specific prerequisite.
Assessment Methods
The final examination takes place on a single exam date and covers all three modules that make up the integrated course. The assessment is structured into three tests: one related to Module 1 (physical activity in aquatic environment); one related to Module 2 (elements of food hygiene and sports nutrition); and one related to Module 3 (green exercise and outdoor physical and sports activities).
The final grade, expressed out of thirty, is calculated as the arithmetic mean of the grades obtained in each module. The exam is considered passed with a minimum score of 18/30 in each of the three tests. A grade lower than 18/30 in one of the modules results in an overall failing grade.
Module 1 (Physical Activity in Aquatic Environment)
Assessment of learning takes place exclusively through the final exam, which will be conducted orally in the form of an individual interview and through the oral presentation of a written paper on a case selected by the student and agreed upon with the instructor.
Module 2 (Elements of Food Hygiene and Sports Nutrition)
Test consisting of 33 multiple-choice questions. For each question, among the three answer options, there is only one correct answer and two incorrect ones. One point is awarded for each correct answer and zero points for each incorrect answer. The grade is expressed out of thirty.
Module 3 (Green Exercise and Outdoor Physical and Sports Activities)
The exam is divided into 3 parts: Parts A, B, and C.
Part A: written section. Its objective is to assess knowledge related to the scientific and teaching principles underlying physical activity in outdoor contexts. It consists of a written test with 11 multiple-choice questions. For each question, among three answer options, there is only one correct answer (two are incorrect). One point is awarded for each correct answer and zero points for each incorrect answer.
Part B: oral/practical, focused on knowledge of the discipline and on the application of teaching methods in Orienteering, 10 points.
Part C: oral/practical, focused on knowledge of the discipline and on the application of teaching methods in Nordic Walking, 10 points.
The grade is expressed out of thirty.
Parts B and C are both divided into two sections, each worth 5 points. The first section concerns knowledge and demonstration of specific skills and concepts related to the individual disciplines, and the second section concerns the application of teaching-methodological competencies for learning the specific disciplines.
The first practical-oral part (C) concerns the discipline of Nordic Walking. Students will be asked to demonstrate and explain the steps of Nordic Walking (total 5 points). The other 5 points will be assigned to a question related to a specific teaching proposal for learning Nordic Walking (assessment of the ability to perform and to teach performance, based on the “reflection–action” concept).
The assessment criteria for the section concerning knowledge and demonstration of specific skills include: quality of execution; relevance, knowledge, and awareness in the execution of the required skills, exercises, and concepts. With reference to Nordic Walking, particular attention will be paid to gross coordination, posture, pole management, upper limb movement, and smoothness of hand movement.
The assessment criteria for the section concerning the application of teaching-methodological competencies for learning the specific disciplines include: appropriate use of technical language and communication methods; appropriate application of anatomical-physiological and mechanical principles to exercises; adequate mastery and applied knowledge of the principle of progression in the proposal of exercises; organization and demonstration in relation to specific objectives.
