Description
Department of Biotechnology and Life Sciences - University of Insubria, Varese
Qualifications obtained
Degree in Medicine and Surgery from the University of Pavia - 1985
State Examination for qualification to practice medicine - 1986
Specialization in Neurology from the University of Pavia - 1990
PhD in Human Psychobiology from the University of Modena.
Training and research activities
As part of his training and research activities, Dr. Mauri has focused on central nervous system disorders, with particular reference to disorders and conditions that manifest themselves as dysfunction/damage to cognitive systems, using clinical neuropsychology as a reference point for the identification and study of various disorders: primary degenerative dementias; encephalopathies of toxic-infectious, disimmune, traumatic, and vascular origin. The implementation of clinical neuropsychology methods in the study of neurological patients has been extended, on the application side, to early diagnosis, follow-up, and the study of specific integrated skills, with implications both for the multiparametric assessment of specific skills (complex motor tasks) and for the evaluation of response to treatment (multicenter trials), and in the context of rehabilitation programs, in a wide range of qualified collaborations (IRCCS, ISS).
CLINICAL AND HEALTHCARE ACTIVITIES
Full-time researcher in Neurology (MED 26) at the University of Insubria since May 1, 2002. He has also been working as physician at ASST Settelaghi, Neurology and Stroke Unit in Varese, affiliated with the Medical Faculty of Varese. Head of the Cognitive Disorders and Dementia Center (CDCD) and the Simple Structure Unit (UOS) for Vision and balance disorders.
MAIN SCIENTIFIC INTERESTS
Throughout his career, his interests, from both a clinical and scientific point of view, have focused on the following specific topics:
a) Neurodegenerative diseases (dementia, movement disorders, ALS): neurocognitive and behavioral correlates; rapidly progressive dementias (dysimmune encephalitis), role of neuroinflammation and peripheral immunity in Parkinson's and Alzheimer's diseases, peripheral markers of neurodegeneration processes.
b) Cerebrovascular disease: outcomes and clinical correlates in Level II Stroke Units.
c) Primary, symptomatic headaches and related disorders.
d) Encephalopathies secondary to infectious disease (including SARS-Cov2), endocrine disorders, and CNS toxins.
