Overview
Associate Professor of Medical Genetics (MED03) in the Department of Medicine and Surgery at the University of Insubria, Varese, Italy. He worked in the United States for eight years, first at the Center for the Human Genome at Washington University in St. Louis, Missouri, and subsequently as a Visiting Scientist at the National Institute on Aging, National Institutes of Health (NIH), Baltimore, Maryland.
He is the Director of the Center for Genomic Medicine at the University of Insubria. His laboratory focuses on several research areas, including the study of gene expression in breast cancer, which has contributed to the understanding of the mechanisms underlying X chromosome deletions and duplications in tumor cells (Cancer Research).

Description
Assistent professor in Medical Genetics (MED03) part of the Department of Experimental Biomedical and Clinical Science of the University of Unsubria since 1995. Pavia 1987, Degree in Medicine and Surgery and Specialized in Human Cytogenetics. He spent eight years in the United States, first at the Washington University Medical School St Louis, Mo, then at The National Institute for Aging (NIH) in Baltimore. He setted up the Molecular Biology's laboratory into the Department of Biomedical, Clinical and Experimental Science and he is directing several researches lines:
The study of the gene expression in breast cancer made possible to understand the mechanism of duplication and deletion of the X chromosome in tumor cells (Cancer Research 2005). The study showed potential new tumors markers.Gene expression studies have identify a new p53 OTX1 pathway involved in cancer stem cell differentiation in breast cancer.
Molecular and cellular study of the amniocytes and dental pulp as potential stem cells reservoir. Stem cells extracted were monitor molecularly during their differentiation in osteoblasts in parallel with bone marrow CD34 negative.
Molecular monitoring of the Minimal Residual Disease (MRD) in chronic myeloid leukenmia This study is aiming to validate the quantization of the cells containing the Philadelphia chromosome using a Real Time PCR assay drown on the genomic break-point of the traslocated chromosome. This technique is able to identify cell Ph+ in million of cells.Review editor of the journal " Frontiers in cancer molecular targets and therapeutis"
