BERNARDINI PAOLO LUCA

Paolo L. Bernardini is Full Professor of Early Modern and Modern History at the University of Insubria, where he teaches European and global history. He graduated summa cum laude in Philosophy at the University of Genoa and earned a Ph.D. in History and Civilization from the European University Institute in Florence. He has held teaching and research positions at several international institutions, including the University of Cape Town, University of Essex, University of Technology Sydney, University of Pittsburgh, University of Missouri–St. Louis, Boston University, University of Hamburg, University of Notre Dame, and the Institute for Advanced Study in Princeton. He was founding Director of the Department of Human Sciences, Innovation and Territory at the University of Insubria and founder of the Institute for the Study of the Jews in the Po Area. His research focuses on early modern and modern European and global history, religious and socio-cultural history, intellectual history, the history of political thought, Christian-Jewish relations, Italian and Mediterranean studies. He has coordinated and participated in national and international research projects, securing funding from public and private institutions. He is the author or co-author of 31 books and editor or co-editor of 21 volumes, and has published more than 200 scholarly articles and numerous reviews. He serves on the scientific and editorial boards of journals and book series, including Nuova Rivista Storica, Quest. Issues in Contemporary Jewish History, and Storia libera. He has received several national and international awards, including the Luigi Tartufari International Prize for History from the Accademia dei Lincei in 2023.
