Overview
Dr. Davide Spanu is a Tenure-Track Assistant Professor of Analytical Chemistry at the University of Insubria. His research focuses on the development of advanced analytical methodologies for trace element speciation and environmental monitoring, as well as on the design and characterization of (photo) and electrocatalytic materials for environmental remediation and sustainable energy applications.

Description
Davide Spanu is a Tenure-Track Assistant Professor of Analytical Chemistry at the Department of Science and High Technology, University of Insubria. He obtained his PhD in Chemical and Environmental Sciences from the University of Insubria in 2019. He achieved the Italian National Scientific Qualification for Full Professor (2025) and Associate Professor (2023) in Analytical Chemistry.
His research activity lies at the interface between analytical chemistry and materials science and focuses on the development of advanced analytical methodologies for trace element speciation and environmental monitoring, with particular emphasis on the interaction of contaminants with complex matrices such as plastics and microplastics. Additional research lines include the design and characterization of photocatalytic and electrocatalytic materials for environmental remediation and sustainable energy conversion, as well as the use of biomass-derived materials (biochar) for electrochemical sensing applications.
He is the author or co-author of approximately 60 scientific publications in ISI-indexed international journals, including high-impact journals such as Nature Communications, Journal of Hazardous Materials, Analytical Chemistry, and Applied Catalysis B: Environmental. He has presented 14 oral and poster contributions at several national and international conferences and is actively involved in undergraduate, graduate, and doctoral teaching in chemistry and environmental sciences.
