Overview

Graduated in Environmental Sciences, PhD in Environmental Sciences, Certified Industrial Hygienist and Specialist in Chemical Risk Assessment and Management. He is Associate Professor at the Department of Science and High Technology of the Università degli Studi dell'Insubria (Como) and holds university teaching positions in the field of Environmental and Occupational Hygiene in undergraduate and PhD courses. He Carries out research activities in the framework of projects oriented to the study of exposure to chemical risk agents. Member of the Board of Directors of the Italian Association of Industrial Hygienists and member of Working Groups and Technical-Scientific Committees for Environmental and Occupational Hygiene issues. Scientific reviewer and editor for national and international scientific journals, he is the author of scientific publications (articles, book chapters/monographs, abstracts and volume contributions) on the topics of environmental and occupational hygiene, chemical risk, and exposure modelling.

MISSION (Monitoraggio Abbattimento Rischi Sanitari Inquinamento Indoor) - MISSION è il progetto di “Monitoraggio Abbattimento Rischi Sanitari Inquinamento Indoor” che ha l’obiettivo di realizzare una campagna nazionale di analisi ambientali e di indagine sanitaria, finalizzata a promuovere nel lungo termine interventi volti a migliorare la Qualità dell’Aria Indoor - Indoor Air Quality-IAQ - nel contesto scolastico. Il progetto è stato finanziato nell’ambito del PIANO NAZIONALE PER GLI INVESTIMENTI COMPLEMENTARI (PNC) - E.1 “SALUTE-AMBIENTE-BIODIVERSITA’-CLIMA” PREV-A-2022 e si estende a 5 Regioni: Lombardia, Toscana, Marche, Puglia e Sicilia in rappresentanza delle macro aree geografiche del territorio nazionale - nord, centro, sud-isole. “INDAIRPOLLNET” - CA17136 - Indoor Air Pollution Network - Cost Action (European Cooperation in Science and Technology) - In developed countries, we spend 80-90% of our time indoors, where we receive most of our exposure to air pollution. However, regulation for air pollution focuses mainly on outdoors and the indoor environment is much less well characterised. The concentrations of many air pollutants can be higher indoors than out, particularly following activities such as cleaning and cooking. With increasing climate change impacts, related energy efficiency measures are making buildings considerably more airtight. Such measures can increase indoor pollutant concentrations even further. Therefore, to reduce our exposure to air pollution, we must consider both the indoor and outdoor environments and the role of ventilation, in order to mitigate through appropriate building operation, use and design. INDAIRPOLLNET (INDoor AIR POLLution NETwork) will improve our understanding of the cause of high concentrations of indoor air pollutants. It will assemble experts in laboratory and chamber experiments, modelling studies and measurements of relevance to indoor air quality (IAQ), including outdoor air chemists. Our network includes experts in chemistry, biology, standardisation, particulate matter characterisation, toxicology, exposure assessment, building materials (including those manufactured specifically to improve IAQ such as green materials), building physics and engineering (including ventilation and energy) and building design. This Action aims to significantly advance the field of indoor air pollution science, to highlight future research areas and to bridge the gap between research and business to identify appropriate mitigation strategies that optimise IAQ.
