The Research Group in Structural Chemistry of Advanced Materials (ChiMat) juxtaposes advanced knowledge in the Chemical Sciences and Crystallography to single-crystal and powder X-ray diffraction for the structural and funcional characterization of advanced materials, such as:
• porous coordination polymers as greenhouse gases adsorbents - from the structural characterization of the adsorbent under ambient conditions to the investigation of its structural answer in situ dosing the gaseous probe;
• coordination polymers with perfluorinated ligands as low-dielectric constant materials - from the investigation of the material structural properties under ambient conditions to the characterization of its hydrophobicity and (di)electric properties;
• porous coordination polymers as luminescent sensors of emergent contaminants in water - from the study of the sensor structural features under ambient conditions to the structural and spectroscopic ex situ and in situ investigation of the sensing process.
The scientific activities of ChiMat are carried out at the Dipartimento di Scienza e Alta Tecnologia, Università degli Studi dell'Insubria as well as large scale facilities. Development of ChiMat research lines is enriched by ChiMat scientific collaborations at the national and international level.
