BIANCHI FRANCESCO PAOLO

Francesco Paolo Bianchi completed his Ph.D. under an international joint supervision program at the Albert-Ludwigs-Universität in Freiburg, where he defended his dissertation titled Le commedie mitologiche di Cratino (May 31, 2013). His research interests focus on 5th-century B.C. theater and, in particular, on fragmentary Greek comedy and its reception and tradition. He has published two volumes of commentary on the plays of the playwright Cratinus for the Fragmenta Comica series (2016: Archilochoi – Empipramenoi; 2017: Introduzione e Testimonianze), a monograph on references to dramatic texts in the work of Strabo (Strabone e il teatro. La biblioteca drammatica della Geografia, 2020), and a commentary on the mythographer and historian Mnasea for the new Jacoby-online (to be available online in the fall of 2026). He has studied the reception of dramatic texts in the Imperial period (Strabo, Pliny the Elder, and Suetonius) and in the modern era (Hugo Grotius). He is currently working on two other volumes on Cratinus (Fragmenta Comica 3.3 and 3.4) and is collaborating on the scholarly editing of entries for the collective work Greek and Roman Online Humanities (GROH) published by De Gruyter, where he also serves on the editorial board for the section on Greek comedy. He served as the scholarly director responsible for organizing and managing the KomFrag-Kolloquium at the Albert-Ludwigs-Universität in Freiburg (2011–2025) and organized together with B. Zimmermann the international conference Bella e perduta (e faticosamente ritrovata). A History of Greek Comedy after KomFrag(Merano, November 18–20, 2025). He has participated as a speaker at international conferences and training seminars on the use of the Digital Humanities and the legal aspects of copyright.
