Overview
Alessandra Vicentini is Associate Professor of English Language, Linguistics and Translation at the University of Insubria, where she teaches and conducts research in the fields of English linguistics, the history of the English language, and discourse analysis. She is also Scientific Director of the University Language Centre (CLA Insubria) and Delegate for Internationalisation of the Department of Human Sciences and Innovation for the Territory. She previously served as Head of the Bachelor’s Degree Programme in Communication Studies and the Master’s Degree Programme in Communication Sciences and Techniques.
After obtaining a degree in Foreign Languages and Literatures from the University of Milan, she completed her PhD in English Studies at the same institution. From 2007 to 2015, she was Assistant Professor of English Language and Translation at the University of Insubria. The author of numerous scholarly publications and edited volumes, her research focuses on the historical linguistics of English, lexicography and lexicology, with particular attention to specialised languages, medical-scientific discourse, and health communication, also from a diachronic perspective. Her research interests further extend to multilingualism, intercultural communication, and the dissemination of specialised knowledge, especially in ethically sensitive domains.
She is the editor of the book series Lexicography, Terminology, and Society (De Gruyter/Brill).
She has directed and coordinated several nationally and internationally funded research projects, including PRIN projects and initiatives supported by Fondazione Cariplo, and she founded and currently directs the Research Centre on Linguistic and Cultural Phenomena (CRiFLi). She is actively involved in the organisation of international conferences and participation in research networks, as well as in third mission and public engagement activities, with particular attention to issues related to well-being, ageing and communication in healthcare contexts.
