LUALDI MARTA

Marta Lualdi was born in Busto Arsizio on July 2nd, 1985. She obtained her B.Sc. in Biology of Health in 2007 (cum laude, 110/110), her M.Sc. in Biology Applied to Biomedical Research in 2009 (cum laude, 110/110, with academic distinction), and her Ph.D. in Biotechnologies in 2012, all from the University of Insubria. Her doctoral and early postdoctoral research (up to 2015) focused primarily on the role of the tumour microenvironment in promoting or counteracting ovarian carcinoma growth. She currently holds a fixed-term researcher position (RTD-A) in Biochemistry (PNRR; NODES project) at the Laboratory of Biochemistry and Functional Proteomics, Department of Science and High Technology, University of Insubria (contract end date: 31/01/2026). Her current research is mainly devoted to investigating the molecular mechanisms underlying Parkinson’s disease (PD) pathogenesis, with a particular focus on mitochondrial dysfunction. Her approach integrates wet-lab biochemical, cellular and molecular biology techniques with proteomics and systems biology methodologies. She holds the Italian National Scientific Qualification (Abilitazione Scientifica Nazionale) for Associate Professor in General Biochemistry (Scientific Sector 05/E1), valid from 29/09/2023 to 29/09/2034. Dr. Lualdi is the lecturer of the course “Integrated Course of Advanced Biochemistry – Bioinformatics” for the B.Sc. program in Biological Sciences at the University of Insubria. Over the past five years, she has supervised or co-supervised fifteen undergraduate and master’s theses in Biological Sciences, Biomedical Sciences, and Chemistry. She is a member of the Center of Research in Neuroscience at the University of Insubria. She currently serves on the Executive Board of the Italian Proteomics Association (ItPA) as Secretary. She is also a member of the European Proteomics Association (EuPA) and the Italian Society of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology (SIB). Dr. Lualdi is co-author of 24 peer-reviewed journal articles (h-index: 12; Scopus) and three book chapters on the topics of feature selection and web-based tools for proteomics data analysis. She has contributed to several international conferences as an invited and selected speaker. In 2022, she was awarded one of the "Early Career Researcher Awards" by the Italian Proteomics Association. As principal investigator, she secured funding under the 2024 call for proposals “Funding of 30 one-year postdoctoral research fellowships – University Research Grants”, within the Life Sciences (LS) macro-area.
