GIARONI CRISTINA

Cristina Giaroni, PharmD, PhD, is Associate Professor of Pharmacology at the Department of Medicine and Technological Innovation and the School of Medicine at the University of Insubria. She obtained a degree in Pharmaceutical Chemistry and Technology (1990), a specialisation in Applied Pharmacology (1995) and a PhD in Pharmacology and Toxicology (2000). In 2025, she obtained national scientific qualification as a full professor (SSD BIOS-11A).
His scientific activity focuses on the study of the mechanisms regulating gastrointestinal function in physiological and pathological conditions, with particular attention to the enteric nervous system, its interactions with the immune system and the intestinal microbiota, and the role of the microbiota-gut-brain axis. His research includes preclinical models of inflammation, ischaemia/reperfusion, dysbiosis and chronic drug treatments, with in vitro and in vivo experimental, morphological, biochemical and biomolecular approaches.
She has conducted research at University College London (UK) and is responsible for or participates in numerous research projects funded by MIUR, the University of Insubria, and banking foundations. She is Associate Editor and Review Editor for several international journals and is a reviewer for numerous peer-reviewed scientific journals. She is the author of over 70 publications in international peer-reviewed scientific journals and has participated in more than 100 national and international conferences. He is a member of national and international scientific societies and actively participates in multidisciplinary research collaborations.
