FASANO MAURO

Mauro Fasano is Full Professor of Biochemistry at the University of Insubria since 2020, after serving as Associate Professor at the same institution since 2000. His research focuses on the biochemistry of metabolic stress in neurodegenerative diseases, with two main goals: (a) understanding the molecular mechanisms underlying neurodegeneration; and (b) identifying and validating peripheral biomarkers of the disease.
These goals are pursued through proteomics approaches that combine global, hypothesis-free analyses with bioinformatic tools to interpret functional data from the literature, leading to the formulation of new hypotheses to be experimentally validated.
Professor Fasano has served as president or scientific board member of several scientific societies and as referee and editor for international journals in the fields of proteomics and neuroscience. He is the author of approximately 200 scientific publications, as well as book chapters, e-books, and encyclopedia entries. His work has received over 10,600 citations, with an h-index of 45.
